Objectives were to analyze SAA and Hp concentrations and relative abundance of SAA, SAA1 and Hp mRNA transcript in maternal and fetal tissues after experimental induction of placentitis or mares of a control group. Serum Amyloid A family proteins were in marked abundance in the stroma of the endometrium and chorioallantois associated with inflammatory cells. Maternal plasma SAA concentrations were greater (P = 0.01) in mares with experimentally induced placentitis compared to those of the control group. Maternal Hp from the groups were not different, but fetal Hp concentrations of mares with experimentally induced placentitis were greater (P = 0.02). Maternal plasma SAA and Hp concentrations were greater than fetal plasma concentrations in mares with experimentally induced placentitis (P less then 0.05). Relative abundance of SAA mRNA transcript was greater in the maternal, fetal liver and chorioallantois of mares with experimentally induced placentitis (P less then 0.05) compared to those in the control group. Interestingly, relative abundance of SAA1 mRNA transcript was greater in the chorioallantois of mares with experimentally induced placentitis (P less then 0.05). The SAA and Hp concentrations, therefore, were greater in mares with induced placentitis. Furthermore, relative abundance of SAA1 mRNA transcript is specifically greater in the chorioallantois of mares with placentitis, which warrants further studies to elucidate the immunological response of SAA1 in the chorioallantois of mares with placentitis.Follicular dynamics and pregnancy per AI (P/AI) of cattle submitted to resynchronization 13 d after TAI using a progesterone (P4) insert and supplementary injectable progesterone (iP4) were determined. There was synchronization of ovulation timing imposed (Day 0 = expected estrus; Experiment 1). On Day 13, animals were assigned to control (only P4 insert; 15 cows and 13 heifers) and iP4 (P4 insert+100 mg iP4; 13 cows and 12 heifers) groups, and submitted to daily ovarian ultrasonography and blood collection (Day 13 to Day 22). In Experiment 2, 760 suckled cows and 498 heifers were submitted to a TAI on Day 0 and assigned into control and iP4 groups on Day 13. In animals with luteolysis on Day 22, there was a second TAI on Day 24, and on Day 37 were subjected to the opposite treatments as imposed in first resynchronization procedure. On Day 37, there was pregnancy diagnosis in animals with functional CL. The third TAI was performed on Day 48. Day of follicular wave emergence did not differ between groups and parities. Dominant follicles were larger in cows than heifers, and in animals of the control group on Day 24. Greater P4 concentrations were detected on Day 14 and Day 15 in the iP4-treated animals. Luteolysis occurred earlier in cows than heifers. Overall P/AI percentage as a result of second and third TAIs, regardless of parity, was greater in iP4-treated animals. In a retrospective study of a prospectively developed and maintained database, all patients diagnosed with FS before and during the COVID-19 pandemic were studied at the outpatient epilepsy clinic at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Shiraz, Iran, from December 2008 until February 2021.
Three hundred and eighty-eight patients were studied. Three hundred and sixty-four patients (94%) were diagnosed before and 24 persons (6%) during the pandemic. Patients diagnosed during the COVID-19 pandemic less frequently had generalized motor seizures [odds ratio (OR) 0.30, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.12-0.77; p=0.012] and had higher seizure frequencies (OR 1.00, 95% CI 1.00-1.01; p=0.044). Functional seizures were inversely associated with the education level as a trend during the COVID-19 pandemic (OR 0.36, 95% CI 0.13-1.01; p=0.052).

We investigated whether development of functional brain networks important for executive function (EF) could serve as potential mediators of this association. We analyzed data of 475 adolescents, a subsample of the multisite longitudinal NCANDA (National Consortium on Alcohol and Neurodevelopment in Adolescence) cohort with completed measures of childhood trauma, resting-state functional brain connectivity data, and symptoms of internalizing and externalizing psychopathology at baseline and follow-up years 1-4. Using parallel process latent growth models, we found that childhood adversity was associated with increased risk for externalizing/internalizing behaviors. We specifically investigated whether functional connectivity of the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC) to brain regions within the cingulo-opercular (CO) network, a well-known EF network that underlies control of attention and self-regulation, mediates the association between adversity and symptoms of psychopathology.
